I recently engaged in a conversation with a friend about the nature of freedom. He had posted the following quote on a forum:
“There is no ‘how’ to be free.
If you ask ‘how’ to be free, you are not listening”.
~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
I love this quote because for me it points to our inherent wholeness and the fact that we are already free. I only have to watch the wisdom of my children to know that this is the case. They are not “trying” to be free. They already are, and that freedom manifests in all sorts of ways in each and every moment.
As a parent, I often get in the way of that freedom because of my attachment to my fears and judgements about what my kids are doing. I literally stifle their freedom with my rules about what they should or shouldn’t be doing, because I am in fear for their lives.
